Flat cavity containing a gas bubble in an unheated yellow sapphire from Sri-Lanka

Flat cavity, parallel to the c-plane (i.e. perpendicular to the c-axis), containing a liquid essentially consisting of liquid CO2 with a gas bubble, in an unheated yellow sapphire from Sri-Lanka. Automorphous crystals of diaspore (AlO(OH)) can also be observed. Diaspore, and its polymorph boehmite (AlO(OH)), are very common inclusions in corundum of metamorphic origin.
